“Children are our future. They should have the chance to fulfil their potential” this is something I say when giving talks.
School days are the happiest days of your life. Sadly this was not the case for me as I dreaded going to school.
When my son was diagnosed as being dyslexic, I asked the specialist what options there were to help him. His answer was; 1. do nothing, 2. send him to a boarding school or, 3. do something about it yourselves, and that’s we did.
In 1986 dyslexia was not recognised in Guernsey, but following many meetings we opened the doors at Dyslexia Day Centre and taught children after school. 4,500 pupils later we provided tuition in primary, secondary schools and at the centre.
